Financial records, bank account books, bonds, tax papers, bills and receipts, leases, deeds, legal papers, lists of stockholders, and correspondence of the Bay State Iron Company of South Boston. Among the directors of the company were F. Gordon Dexter, Thornton K. Lothrop, and John H. Reed. The Bay State Iron Company won an International Exhibit award for boiler plate from the U.S. Centennial Commission in 1876 but ran into financial difficulties in the 1880s. Also included are a letterbook (1856-73) of Benjamin T. Reed as treasurer of the company, and a ledger containing inventories and accounts of trusts, including investments and income, of Reed's estate and its disbursement (1874-88). All of the company's assets and obligations were sold to John H. Reed in 1898.
